Sleep is one of the fundamental,
biological drives along with hunger,
thirst and sex.  Sleep promotes health
and well being.  It is routinely dismissed
and downplayed in modern society in a
world mired with quick fixes, canned
laughter, and constantly stimulation.
Sleep is a precursor to biological events
in the brain which create balanced
emotions, heightened intuition, and
complex problem solving in the waking
state.  Sleep is elemental to a balanced
life and requires an effort in the kind of
society people are living in today.

Sleep deprivation is often associated
with busy schedules and overworked
minds.  These circumstances sidetrack
the proper and elemental process of
falling asleep or staying asleep.
People’s frustration and worry about
sleep further diminishes its quality and
leads to a building up of anxiety.  People
are prescribed sleep medications and
other pharmaceutical remedies in these
cases and it is warranted.  But nothing
takes the place of restful, regenerating
sleep in an optimum environment which
is cool, dark, and low and with adequate
fresh air and oxygenation.

It is a fact that sleep deprivation leads to
neurosis and self worth problems.  So
when a person is continually deprived of
sleep, they often do not behave
rationally.  Conversely when a person is
depressed, they sleep more.  So
balance in all things is required.  But
when an individual is ill or depressed,
their increased need for sleep is a form
of self preservation.  The person goes
into an unconscious state to rebuild ties
and synapses in the brain that have
become stressed to the maximum
through repeated barrages of
stimulation in the world.  Also, the
person can build their self esteem and
diminish depression by sleeping more
especially during certain seasons of the
year and during changes in circadian
rhythms.

From a metaphysical perspective, the
soul transverses during sleep.  That is
to mean that the soul slips out of the
body temporarily.  The soul never fully
leaves the body until the time of death
but for the purposes of this article the
soul slips beyond the folds of time into
other dimensions and floats about in
lands of possibility, conjecture and
rapture.  The soul also uses the window
of opportunity to commune with the
higher self.

These “out of body” experiences are
precursors to the moment when this
cycle is broken and the soul leaves the
body permanently at the time of death.
Dreaming and out of body experiences
are a sort of “practice”, if you wish to put
it that way, to the final exit process when
the soul transverses to finer firmament
permanently (or until the next life cycle
when the soul again enters dense
material form).
When a person dreams they are
downloading tidbits of memory and
knowledge which are no longer
needed at the time, building up new
synapses and connections in the
memory bank (much like increasing
the hard drive of a computer), practicing
the soul transversion process, and
accessing the higher self for review of
life progress and to strategize new
paradigms for personal growth.  These
processes create a kind of “moving
picture” on the slate of a person’s
unconscious mind that is instrumental
in their conscious, waking life and
helps them perform to their optimum
potential during waking hours.

Dreams are worthy of careful review.
Writing dreams down in a journal and
reviewing them at other times and
places allows a person to “check up”
on unconscious mind.  This review
assists a person in seeing the patterns
of the unconscious.   They can also
see how well they used the information
in the morality play called their life.

The great psychic, Edgar Cayce,
suggested people collect a fragment of
their dream and bring it into conscious
life the next day.  This supports dream
recall and “remembering” life lessons
hidden in the unconscious mind.  Also,
the practice facilitates daily, complex
problem solving which helps a person
remember to use higher
consciousness in their daily routine.
That is to mean, if an individual dreams
of something navy blue, it may be
helpful to wear the color the next day in
order to create a bridge between the
higher conscious, unconscious, and
conscious mind.

For the average person, sleep affords a
treasure trove to the inner self that
bolsters problem solving that should
not be negated or denied.  But
nightmares and night frights serve a
purpose, too, although they can be
quite debilitating when a person wakes
up in a panic or feels shocked or
terrified at the images during the
dream-state.  This creates a cause and
effect reality.

Being traumatized while asleep,
causes a person to make an effort to
push down the unconscious mind both
while awake and asleep.  This creates
a war within the self to push down
memories and images to avoid them
versus the natural inclination to bring
them up for review and resolution.  This
interplay of pushing and pulling effects
the biological markers in the brain
(between the conscious and
unconscious state) leaving the person
thrown about in a sea of irrational
thought that cannot be quelled.  It is of
note that a therapist is helpful for
people with night terrors when they
become debilitating in order to help
them seek out the root cause of the
problem.

Sleep is wonderful, restorative process
for the health of the body, mind and
spirit.  It is important for the growth of a
lifetime.  It is elemental to the final
process of transmutation at the time of
death.  People in the chaotic, modern
world should give in to their need for
rest, sleep and rejuvenation.  They
need to find the right amount of sleep
that is fulfilling and make it a priority.
As previously mentioned, human
beings have elemental bodily drives;
sleep, hunger, thirst and sex.  People
should never allow worldly concerns,
busy schedules, goals, plans and
other mental fretwork to encroach on
the drives that are foundations to
health.  Sleep is nurturing and one of
the important elements of keeping the
body, mind and spirit in balance.
