MYTH: Endo Gladiators
People at war with themselves and others finally attempt to keep the peace but the effort falls short when they cannot get the “rush” of excitement in any other way but cheap drama. It is the adrenaline rush of the fight or flight reflex that they are addicted to. They keep taking risks and ratcheting up the excitement level until they are isolated or destroyed.

Some human beings are “wired” for
stress and enjoy their ability to dodge,
shape shift, adapt and survive in the
midst of difficulty. Often these nervous,
driven types seek out daily satisfaction
by pitting themselves against others and
going to war in major and minor ways.
Often this process becomes tiresome.
Sometimes external forces such as a
reputation for being difficult make them
unable to find worthy opponents. When
these things occur, the characters
internalize their battle and go to war
within the self.
While it is a useless argument to fight
with the self, the Endo Gladiator places
value in it and engages in negative self
talk and unrealistic aspirations and
goals. Their self imposed trap is that
they are hooked on the adrenaline rush
of controversy and drama. This negative
archetype is destructive and once the
character is hooked on the fight and
flight reflex, they will keep moving on to
different conquests throughout their
lives. Endo Gladiators often do not ever
break free of creating cheap drama in
people and situations around them in
order to lose consciousness and
sedate themselves from reality.
Characters:
1. Aggressive competitors
2. Driven business people
3. Drama kings and queens
4. Those who manifest constant crisis
5. Bored, complacent people seeking
excitement
6. Those with little life satisfaction
7. Athletes
8. Gamblers
9. Racers
10. Fighters
Conflicts:
Character conflicts are associated with
relationship and setting. Conflicts often
arise through the arena of the character’
s addiction. It is of note here that
alcoholics and drug addicts are not
Endo Gladiators, per say. These people
seek sedation and self medication to
hide. Endo Gladiators create
excitement and drama in the outside
world in order to engage with others.
They play off of other people’s chaotic
reactions to what might happen next.
These situations generate the
excitement they crave.
Conflict examples:
1. Physical accidents or breakdowns
2. Energy disturbances and illness
3. Meteoric rises and falls in careers
and relationships
In short, these characters have a
profound lack of self knowledge. In fact,
they are running from themselves. They
do not like isolation because it thwarts
their desire to engage in battle.
Resolution:
Resolution for Endo Gladiators can be
written in a few ways. They have an
addiction which has been internalized
and satisfied by behavior which cannot
be resolved on a certain level. Life
alterations sometimes allow
modifications on the overall pattern but
once the “die is cast” and the character
is hooked on drama, excitement and
the subsequent adrenaline rush, it is
very unlikely that they will ever make a
choice to change.
Sometimes through illness or
catastrophe, they will make minor
modification but it is unlikely that any
external forces will change anything for
these characters.
Still and all, the indomitable human
spirit always has the propensity to
improve. Resolution could be said to
stem from self realization when the
character realizes the futility of their
behavior and makes conscious daily
choices for participation and
camaraderie.
However, a constant supply of
endorphins already “fully loaded” in a
person’s body that can be utilized at
will is a powerful narcotic. This unique
and fundamental process called the
fight and flight reflex served early
human beings well. In modern society,
the process is also working as it was
designed to do but it takes on new
meaning in a new world.
Storylines:
1. Captives held against their will
during a crisis or crime spree become
intoxicated by the life and death thrill in
comparison to their previous, boring
life. After the crisis has subsided, they
become drama kings and queens in
order to achieve the adrenaline rush of
life on the edge.
2. A reality show producer is really a
voyeur at heart. He seeks out ways to
fulfill his secret fetish to spy on people
by turning an unsuspecting neighbor’s
life into a reality show. This works for a
time with spectacular results until the
unsuspecting victim figures out that his
life is being watched on the Internet.
3. A computer hacker enjoys wrecking
havoc on electronic world and finds
fulfillment in the excitement of not
knowing if he will be caught. For him it
is the challenge of where he can go.
The subsequent computerized
destruction or specially titled virus with
his codename is more of a calling card
to where he has been and how far he
can go. He experiences immense
satisfaction until he becomes caught
and goes to jail. While incarcerated, he
is cut off from all electronic
communication.
4. A celebrity lives a dark life and has
all sorts of publicity campaigns to keep
it hidden from the public. The huge
money making machine of publicists
and agents keeps the character in
check. But the process almost grinds
to a halt when he is nearly discovered.
Damage control keeps the celebrity’s
wholesome image in check and keeps
him at the top of his career. But for
him, it is the excitement of leading a
double life and not knowing if he will be
discovered and he’s hooked on the
challenge.
5. A sweet mother-in-law turns into a
shrew when she comes to live her son
and his family. She loves attention
getting schemes, the notoriety of being
the most difficult mother-in-law alive,
and the challenge of how far she can
go. When her son starts writing a
column about it in the newspaper, it
fuels her frenzy further until his wife
demands that his mother-in-law
change her ways or go.
